Visual Analytics

I've always wanted to study the difference between a color photograph and black and white photograph. This picture was taken on one sunny day, early March this year. I was just aiming for the roof of the football stadium when the two birds flew in just moments before I released the shutter. I was a divine intervention. The picture looks a lot more alive now.

I cannot say that one is better than the other, both have visual magnetism. I don't want to go into technical analysis either, in fact, I don't know much about it myself. I just want to make a point here - what the black and white lacks (i.e. colors), it compensates by bringing out one significant dimension - emotions. I look at the color photograph and I see a beautiful scene, a beautiful picture. I look at the black and white photograph and I see a complete story.

Great Photo!!! I find it really interesting to see what the B/W shot shows compared to the color. Being in B/W def changes the mood of the shot.

i love black and white shots. they give me this concrete feeling, like a brick is falling onto my head, color snaps outta way and i really see what everything truly is.

this shot is fucking nice.

It's almost like looking at a whole new picture when it's in b&w. Either way it's a beautiful shot.

I think that with black and white it's more easier to create narrative. But colour can give mood and warmth, depending on the subject matter. Here the black and white is my favourite.

I have to agree with you. It does depend on the scene and subject matter. The black and white picture looks really dramatic here.

Thank you! Black and white photographs are really subtle and seductive at the same time and they always have a message or a story to tell.

i had a conversation with an old lover. we spoke of B+W verses colour. she believed that B+W was more honest. taking colour from a photograph strips it raw
but, in turn adds so very much in atmosphere. i am still of two minds but i straddle that fence with dark colour a lot.

great post.
i like your site and where you are.
