Rhinoceros

A doodle I made during one of my french drama classes.
An interpretation of Eugene Ionesco's Rhinoceros.

Exhibition: Red, Green, Black & White

A group of young artists got together and organized a two day open exhibition just outside the college cafeteria about two weeks ago. The displayed art works ranged from interesting to impressive, some were simply loud and beautiful. Here are some photographs that I took on the second day of the exhibition.

Maison de Van Gogh : A Sketch

The small cafe in North West of Paris where Vincent van Gogh spent his last final months.

Sister Death, You Dance Well.

I waltzed with death for the third time last month. A third encounter seems too much for a single lifetime but the fact that I am here today proves something. I know how she moves, but oh she's a tricky one.

I have been reading an unhealthy dose of poetry lately; just anything to keep my mind off sickness. I took up my pencil after a long, long time and made a few sketches. Sometimes drawing is the only thing that prevents me from going mad.

This is my humble tribute to the master artist Vincent van Gogh.

"I will take up my pencil, which I have forsaken in my great discouragement,
and I will go on with my drawing."

— Vincent Van Gogh

A World Gone Wrong

Renegade

I have been experimenting with some new drawing techniques lately, playing with hard shades and strokes. The result is very bold. Instant gratification.

LOLITA

Another one for April. Thank you Nabokov, Kubrick... and, of course, Sue darling.

The Swedish Sphinx

Where and how should I begin? The only way to understand Garbo is to invoke the muses, all nine of them. And I fear that too won't be enough to comprehend this cryptic sibyl. She is Queen Christina, she is Anna Karenina, Mata Hari, the Wild Orchid, the Divine, the Temptress and above all the Mysterious. Ill-fated and melancholic, always, she tries to hide her longings behind her chalkwhite mask, but her eyes never lie... it all comes screaming out in black and white. Her voice too is drowned in silence but she never lies. She never lies. And I love her.

A sketch of Greta Garbo I did earlier this year.

Delicate Lines

I have been sketching again lately. I first experimented with this style back in 2011. Last month, as I was going through my old sketches I developed a fresh interest in the style and so I sat down and did a few more. I must admit, it feels tremendously good to be back on my working table. I really needed some graphite back on my fingers.

Here are some old and new sketches from 2011 and 2013.

Have a nice day

Doodles

I was going through my class notes a few days ago and the number of doodles that I found on those weary pages is outstanding. I mean they were almost on every page. Most people make doodles between notes, it seems I take down notes between doodles.

I have posted a few of them here. Some are pretty impressive.

When In Egypt

Made this doodle in my History class today. Before you judge, I'm not really proud of what I did in class either. But tell me this, who doesn't love dancing Egyptians?

Vistas (vol. 2)

This is the second volume of sketches that I did during the last couple of days. This time I decided to pay tribute to some of the old masters, some of my favorite painters. These sketches are my rendition of some of my favorite artworks. I worked with a pen and there was absolutely no space for mistakes, but then again there was no need for perfection either. I enjoyed working on these sketches very much. I hope you like them.

The sketches are in the following order:

1. 'Wild Poppies'    - 1873 -  by Claude Monet
2. 'The Skiff'          - 1879 -  by Pierre - Aguste Renoir
3. 'Stonehenge'     - 1836 -  by John Constable
4. 'Starry Night'     - 1889 -  by Vincent van Gogh

P.S. - Once again, please click on picture and maximize for a better viewing experience. Cheers.

Vistas

I started a new project yesterday. Creating spaces with simple ingredients - paper, pen and imagination. These sketches are quite different from my earlier drawings but they nevertheless tell stories. I enjoyed working on them. They demanded very little time and gave me much freedom. I hope you like them.

P.S. - Click on picture and maximize for a better viewing experience. Cheers.

Little Sara

I drew this last year sometime between March and April. All I wanted to do was draw a beautiful pair of eyes. It took me days. Everything else was completed in under ten minutes. I'd like to call this an 'unfinished-finished' sketch.

The Promises Of A Face

"Let old Plato look on you with an austere eye;
You earn pardon by the excess of your kisses
And the inexhaustible refinements of your love,
Queen of the sweet empire, pleasant and noble land.
Let old Plato look on you with an austere eye."
—  Charles Baudelaire, Fleurs du mal
